CHEST

Hand Release Push Up

BeginnerBodyweight

A push-up variation where you briefly lift your hands off the floor at the bottom of each rep. That pause kills any momentum and guarantees you're starting every push-up from a true dead stop, forcing your chest, shoulders, and triceps through the full range.

How to do it

  1. 1

Set your hands on the floor in line with your chest, a little wider than shoulder width.

  2. 2

Extend your legs behind you with feet together and toes down.

  3. 3

Engage your core to lift your hips into a straight line from shoulders to ankles.

  4. 4

Bend your elbows and lower your chest all the way to the floor.

  5. 5

Rest your chest on the ground and lift both hands off the floor for a moment.

  6. 6

Set your hands back down, then press through your chest, triceps, and shoulders to push back up.
