CALVES
Smith Machine Calf Raise
A calf raise loaded on a Smith machine, targeting the calves. Resting the bar across your upper back lets you add far more resistance than bodyweight alone, and the machine keeps the load balanced overhead. Good for driving calf size and strength.
How to do it
- 1
Set the Smith bar just below shoulder height.
- 2
Dip into a quarter squat under the bar so it sits just below the base of your neck.
- 3
Unhook the bar and extend your hips to stand tall.
- 4
With feet hip-width apart, toes slightly out, and knees softly bent, push through the balls of your feet to lift your heels.
- 5
Keep your hips stacked under your shoulders as you reach full ankle extension, then lower back down.
