CALVES

Heel Press

BeginnerBodyweight

This is a standing wall stretch for the calf, done from a split stance with the rear leg straight. Leaning toward the wall lengthens the calf and eases tightness in the lower leg. It is a useful stretch before or after lower-body work to keep the ankles supple.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand facing a wall in a split stance with your hands on the wall for support.

  2. 2

Keep the front foot's toes and ball against the wall base while the heel stays down.

  3. 3

Straighten the front leg to feel a stretch through the back of that calf.

  4. 4

Lean your body toward the front foot to deepen the stretch.

  5. 5

Hold for fifteen to thirty seconds.

  6. 6

Switch legs and repeat on the other side.
