CALVES
Dumbbell Calf Raise to High Pull
This compound move strings a hip hinge, calf raise and high pull into one explosive effort. It teaches the calves to contribute to a powerful pull, which carries over to Olympic-style lifting. A strong option for building full-body power and coordination.
How to do it
- 1
Hold a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs with palms facing you.
- 2
Stand with feet a little wider than shoulder-width, core braced and chest up.
- 3
Hinge your hips back and lower the dumbbells to shin level until you feel a hamstring stretch.
- 4
Drive through your legs and snap your hips forward to stand.
- 5
As you rise, push onto the balls of your feet and pull the dumbbells to chest height with elbows flaring out to the sides.
- 6
Pause briefly, then lower back to the starting position.
