The bodyweight calf raise is the most basic way to train the calves and needs no equipment at all. It builds strength and size in the lower leg and forms the base for dozens of loaded variations. Simple enough for a first-timer, yet easy to progress over time.
How to do it

Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart.

Keep your core engaged and your gaze forward.
- 3
Push through the balls of your feet to lift your heels as high as they will go.
- 4
Squeeze the calves briefly at the top.
- 5
Lower your heels back to the floor under control.
