TRICEPS

Lateral Cable Tricep Extension

BeginnerCable

A single-arm cable extension that trains the triceps in a sideways plane most exercises never touch. The cable keeps steady tension through the whole arc, and working one arm at a time stops your stronger side from taking over. Great for adding variety to triceps day.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand side-on to a cable machine with the anchor set just below shoulder height.

  2. 2

Grab the handle with your outside hand, palm facing your chest and forearm parallel to the floor.

  3. 3

Extend your elbow to sweep the handle out and away in an arc until it sits directly out to the side of your shoulder.

  4. 4

Return to the start under control, keeping tension on the triceps the whole time.

  5. 5

Finish your reps, then switch to the other arm.

  6. 6

Avoid fully locking out at the end so the muscle never gets a chance to rest.
