QUADS

Kettlebell Pistol Squat

AdvancedKettlebell

A weighted single-leg squat and one of the harder lower-body moves around. Holding a kettlebell out in front shifts your weight forward, which actually helps you balance while adding load to the quads. Reserve this for when your strength and mobility are well developed.

How to do it

  1. 1

Hold a kettlebell by the handle with both hands, palms in, and extend your arms out in front at about shoulder height; keep them there throughout.

  2. 2

Lift one leg and hold it out straight, a few inches off the floor.

  3. 3

Brace your core, then hinge at the hips and bend the standing knee, tracking it over your second toe with weight spread across the foot.

  4. 4

Keep lowering only as far as you can while holding a neutral spine.

  5. 5

Drive back up to standing through the working leg.

  6. 6

Finish your reps, then switch to the other leg.
