SHOULDERS
Standing Dumbbell Shoulder Press
The Standing Dumbbell Shoulder Press builds the shoulders while standing, which forces your core and stabilizers to work harder than a seated version. The dumbbells move independently, recruiting the smaller muscles around the shoulder joint. It's a more functional pressing option that carries over well to real-world strength.
How to do it
- 1
Stand with feet about shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.
- 2
Hold a dumbbell in each hand and bring them up beside your shoulders.
- 3
Press both weights straight overhead by driving through your shoulders.
- 4
Pause for a moment at the top with arms extended.
- 5
Lower the dumbbells slowly to the start, keeping your core braced so you don't arch your lower back.
