Loop Band Lat Pulldown

BeginnerCableResistance band

This variation copies the lat pulldown using a loop band thrown over a bar, driving the work into the lats. It's portable and lets you concentrate on form and control, making it a handy stand-in when a machine isn't around. Tension increases through the pull, so you get a strong contraction at the bottom.

How to do it

  1. 1

Throw one end of the band over a pull-up bar so both ends hang down as handles.

  2. 2

Grab an end in each hand and drop into a kneeling or half-kneeling position under the anchor.

  3. 3

Extend your arms overhead to take up the tension.

  4. 4

Pull the band down to your shoulders by bending your elbows to the sides of your torso.

  5. 5

Let the band rise back to the overhead start at a steady pace and repeat.
