Handle Band Straight-Arm Pulldown

BeginnerCableResistance band

The handle band straight-arm pulldown works the lats and upper back using a handled band anchored overhead for a smooth, steady pull. Keeping your elbows locked puts the emphasis on the lats rather than the arms. It's a distinct variation that helps build back strength and reinforce upright posture.

How to do it

  1. 1

Loop a band over a pull-up bar or high anchor and stand beneath it, feet shoulder-width apart.

  2. 2

Grab the handles overhand and extend your arms out in front of your shoulders.

  3. 3

Keeping your arms straight with only a slight elbow bend, pull the handles down to the sides of your hips.

  4. 4

Squeeze your back at the bottom for a moment.

  5. 5

Return the handles to the start under control and repeat.
